When do you need this?
There is no making up for a measuring error in glass work: toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled once it has been tempered, so dimensions, edge work and hole positions must be settled before the glass is made. With a broken pane we make the area safe first and choose the glass type for where it will be used. In places exposed to impact, such as shower enclosures, balustrades and partitions, we specify the toughened or laminated safety glass required, together with sealing and fixing details, in the written scope.

Questions about this service
The inside of my double glazing has fogged. Can it be cleaned?
No. Fogging between the panes means the edge seal of the unit has failed and moisture has got in, so the unit is replaced. Where the frame is sound, usually only the glazing unit is renewed and the frame is left as it is.
What is the difference between toughened and laminated glass?
Toughened glass is more resistant to impact and, if it breaks, crumbles into small blunt pieces rather than sharp shards. Laminated glass stays in place even when broken, thanks to the interlayer between its panes. We decide at survey which is needed for a balustrade, shower enclosure or partition, based on where it is used and how it is supported.
My glass has broken. What should I do until the team arrives?
Keep people and pets away from the area and do not try to pull remaining pieces out of the frame with bare hands. If you can, cover the opening temporarily and attach a photo of the glass to your request; we review the glass type from it at the initial assessment and take exact measurements on site.
