Lighting Design

A layered lighting plan with switching groups and a fitting schedule for ordering after approval.

Open-plan living area at night with cove lighting in a curved ceiling, lit kitchen backsplash and dining table

When do you need this?

How a room feels in the evening depends on where the light falls rather than how many fittings there are; downlights set out in an even grid often leave the worktop and reading corner in shadow, while causing glare at seating positions and reflections on glossy surfaces. EVİZO builds ambient, task, accent and decorative light as separate layers and checks the existing ceiling height, cable routes and switch positions on site. Fitting positions, switching and dimming groups, colour temperature and colour rendering are recorded in a lighting plan and fitting schedule that the electrical and plasterboard teams work from, and fittings are ordered only after you approve.

  • Plenty of downlights in the ceiling, yet the room still feels dim
  • Light coming from behind at the kitchen worktop, leaving hands in shadow
  • Glare in the eyes and reflections on the TV screen and glossy surfaces
  • Yellow and white light mixed across rooms because of different lamps
  • Every light on a single switch, with no calm setting for the evening

THE PROCESS

How the work runs

  1. Open a request with photos of the rooms, the existing fittings and how you use the space in the evening

  2. On-site check of ceiling height, existing wiring, switch positions and daylight

  3. Lighting plan presented with fitting alternatives, and colour temperatures compared with sample lamps

  4. Approved plan and fitting schedule handed in writing to the electrical and plasterboard teams

  5. Fittings ordered from the schedule, with switching and dimming groups tested once installed

Is an even grid of downlights not enough?

An even grid lights the floor but often leaves walls, worktops and seating corners short, and because all the light comes from one direction the room looks flat. Completing the ambient light with task and accent layers gives a more balanced result in most homes.

Should we choose warm or cool light?

Warm white gives living rooms and bedrooms a more relaxed evening feel, while a slightly more neutral tone at the kitchen worktop and desk shows detail more clearly. To stop different tones mixing in one space, the colour temperature is written on the plan separately for each group. Fittings with high colour rendering also help paint, timber and fabric colours read true.

Can lighting be improved without a suspended ceiling?

In most cases, yes. Where the existing ceiling does not allow it or you would rather avoid opening it up, layers can be built with floor lamps, plug-in wall lights, track systems and lighting inside furniture. If a new circuit or an extra switching group is needed, that is settled at survey with the electrical team and written into the scope.
