Material Selection

A written specification for floors, tiles, stone, worktops, timber, fabrics and hardware, confirmed with samples.

Samples of wood planks, patinated stone tile, striped veneer and dark textured material laid out together

When do you need this?

A material that looks striking under showroom lighting faces different questions once it becomes a surface that is walked on, splashed and wiped every day: will it scratch, will it stain, will it cope with moisture, and what care will it need? EVİZO weighs flooring, tiles, natural stone, worktops, solid timber and veneer, fabrics and hardware on wear, moisture resistance and maintenance as well as appearance. Samples are viewed together on a sample board in the light of the room itself, and availability and lead times are checked before approval. Decisions become a written specification schedule setting out material, finish, size and location, which is handed to the implementation team; nothing is ordered until you approve.

  • Tiles that looked right in the showroom but look very different at home
  • A kitchen worktop that stained and scratched within a short time
  • Floor, cabinets and worktop chosen separately that do not sit well together
  • A bathroom material that has suffered from moisture
  • A chosen product that could not be supplied, leaving the work stalled halfway

THE PROCESS

How the work runs

  1. Open a request with photos of the space, how it is used and your budget expectations

  2. On-site review of the existing floor, substrate, moisture and the light in the room

  3. Alternatives at different budget levels presented together on a sample board in the light of the room

  4. Chosen materials put forward for approval after compatibility, availability and lead-time checks

  5. Approved decisions written into a schedule of material, finish, size and location, then handed to the implementation team

Why is choosing materials from photos or in a showroom not enough?

Screens and showroom lighting misrepresent colour and texture, and how neighbouring materials affect one another cannot be judged by looking at each on its own. That is why floor, worktop, cabinet front and fabric samples are reviewed together on one board, in daylight and evening light, in the room where they will be used.

Are alternatives offered for different budgets?

Yes. For each main item, alternatives with a similar look but different durability, care needs and cost level are shown, and you decide where each one matters most. A heavily used worktop might call for a tougher surface, for example, while a room that sees little use can take a more economical option.

Can material selection also be part of an online design project?

Yes. Within a project run through EVİZO Online Interior Design, material recommendations can also be prepared online. Before the final decision we still recommend seeing the samples in the light of the space itself and having availability checked.
